What you'll bring to the team

Right now, we are looking for an experienced Curator to join our Senior Team at SEA LIFE Helsinki.  It's not easy recreating the beauty of the deep and looking after Finland’s Number One Aquarium. That's why, as the Leader of our curatorial Team of 4, you'll oversee the management and development of displays, while at the same time building the very highest standards of conservation, welfare and engagement at SEA LIFE Helsinki.

 

About the role

In this exciting and varied role you will manage the day to day operation of the displays department and work alongside your colleagues locally and centrally to deliver our strategic plan for the site.

 

Using your creative vision and being an expert in your field, you’ll be able to deliver innovative creatures, novel concepts and effective life support systems and so ensure the continual development and innovation of our displays, giving our customers a compelling reason to visit. 

 

Through the management, organisation and continued development of the Lead Aquarists and Aquarists in your team, you will ensure top quality care for our different creatures who call SEA LIFE Helsinki their home. Maintaining vital life support systems and the upkeep of the exhibits to ensure the delivery of consistently high standards of animal husbandry and display presentation. Your processes will guarantee that all areas of our attraction constantly confirms to all current legal and company standards whilst achieving exceptional levels of customer service for all of our visitors.

 

You will creatively work alongside the attraction marketing team to identify and develop PR stories and social media content which engages with our customers and have full budget accountability to ensure the most efficient use of resources across all areas.

This is a full time, permanent role based upon working 5 days out of 7, including weekends and public holidays.

Qualifications & Experience

This is no ordinary working environment! You’ll need to be a dynamic, confident and self-motivated individual; a strong communicator who can lead, develop and support our displays team in creating a centre of excellence in public aquarium management, conservation and education. Gained through significant experience working within a senior level role in the aquarium or zoo industry, you will have a robust knowledge of aquatic animal husbandry, the operation of complex life support systems and their maintenance, managing water chemistry, aquatic animal health, acquisition, transportation, quarantining and experience in the movement of a variety of fish and invertebrates. 

 

You will have previously demonstrated your practical ability to create spectacular displays that deliver a highly immersive visitor experience.  You’ll also have a good understanding of zoo licensing regulations and some project management experience.
